Ethiopia’s Northern Circuit sometimes called the Historical Route, the most impressive tourism itinerary in the country. Across Bahir Dar, Gondar, Axum and Lalibela there lies an extraordinary trove of historic and cultural treasures, from beautifully preserved ancient monasteries to Monolithic churches and vast mysterious obelisks.
The route is frequently supplemented with time in the wider and relatively little-known Tigray region from Axum, including the rock-hewn churches around Wukro and the battlefield of Akwa. Gondar is within easy reach of the magnificent Simian Mountain range making the national park a natural add-on to the circuit.
In the morning fly to Bahir Dar. On arrival check into a hotel ,after a while you will make boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the medieval period monasteries harbored on the islands, and the separation point of the Blue Nile River from Lake Tana. In the afternoon drive 35km to the small village of Tis Abay to visit Blue Nile falls, along the way enjoy the local life style and typical countryside of Ethiopia. Up on arrival hike through the beautiful scenery and cross over Portuguese bridge to the waterfall. Enjoy the fall and on the way back you will cross by boat the legendary Blue Nile River which joins the White Nile at Khartoum (Sudan) then form the longest river in the world. Overnight: Lodge/Hotel

After breakfast, drive to Gondar. Your visit will include the Royal enclosure consisting of several castles inscribed by UNESCO, King Fasiledes’s bath and the fascinating Debre Birhan Selassie church which is well known for its intriguing ceiling paintings. Overnight: Hotel

After breakfast fly to Lalibela to visit the eleven rock-hewn churches registered by UNESCO. Lalibela is known for its well preserved Rock Hewn churches; each rock churches are carved out and crafted beautifully from a single volcanic rock. Here you head on back to 11th c. mythical rock hewn churches of Lalibela. The mysterious Lalibela churches are widely regarded as the 8th wonder of the world. Overnight: Hotel/Lodge

After breakfast fly to Axum (UNESCO heritage site), up on arrival meet and assist by ET-Holidays representative. Axum is a city more than 3000 years of history and once the center of a great empire and ancient civilization, home of the original Ark of the Covenant. The sightseeing of this ancient city includes St. Mary’s Church, the sanctuary Chapel which is the repository for ‘Ark of the covenant’, the coronation yard, the Stelae Park, Tombs of Kaleb and his son Gebre Meskel, Ezana’s inscriptions and Dungur palace (popularly known as ruins of Queen of Sheba’s palace. After breakfast fly to Addis Ababa. Depending on your flight time, you will go on the sightseeing of Addis. The city tour activity includes visiting National Museum, Entoto view point, Merkato the biggest open market, and drive through Addis to see historical monuments and status.
